Cheng
Cheng was born and raised in a coastal city in Eastern China. Growing up surrounded by family members who speak more than one language, she developed an interest in foreign languages. During her childhood, she also enjoyed reading western fictions translated into Chinese under the influence of her parents.
Cheng studied English and literature for her Bachelor’s degree and learned Japanese as her third language. After graduating, Cheng worked briefly as a Translator and Interpreter for an international trading company, while volunteering for subtitling and documentary forums. She then worked as a Translator and Librarian for a hospital in her hometown. During her many years there, she learnt information retrieval skills and translated tons of medical literature. She even has her own publication on medical informatics!
Feeling the challenges of the fast-changing language industry and wanting to explore the world, she decided to study abroad as a MA student in the Translation and Localization Management program at Middlebury Institute of International Studies.
In the summer of 2019, Cheng joined BeatBabel as a Localization Project Coordinator. Inspired by “the most diverse and inclusive office on earth”, she started to annoy her roommates every night and is learning French, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish…
From one coastal city to another, Cheng is enjoying sunny California while pursuing her passion in language and translation.
